EFT & GDD:
Reduce the emotional gap between one’s internal sense of gender identity and their biological sex—commonly referred to as “sex assigned at birth.”
“Sex assigned at birth” refers to the categorization of newborns based on visible primary sex characteristics—typically, a baby boy is identified by the presence of a penis and gonads, while a baby girl is identified by the presence of a vagina. These characteristics form the basis of biological sex, which is typically immutable.
Gender identity, when it differs from one’s biological sex, is often described as a social construct—a concept that arises through human interaction and collective agreement, rather than objective biological fact. As defined in the social sciences, a social construct is “an idea that has been created and accepted by the people in a society.”
Using Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), or “tapping,” may offer a supportive, non-invasive approach to help individuals—especially youth—who are experiencing gender dysphoria, or significant distress about this incongruence.
The goal is to reduce emotional discomfort, feelings of being unsafe in one’s own skin, and the intense psychological distress that can arise from identity confusion. In some cases, this may gently help ease the urge to pursue drastic or irreversible steps—such as puberty blockers or surgical interventions—before emotional maturity and full clarity are reached.
Ultimately, EFT offers a compassionate tool to support nervous system regulation, identity integration, and improved mental health—regardless of where someone lands in their journey.
